iTunes Store Tops 10 Billion Songs Sold

CUPERTINO, California—February 25, 2010—Apple® today announced that music fans have purchased and downloaded over 10 billion songs from the iTunes® Store (www.itunes.com), the world’s most popular online music, TV and movie store. The 10 billionth song, “Guess Things Happen That Way” by Johnny Cash, was purchased by Louie Sulcer of Woodstock, Georgia. As the winner of the iTunes Countdown to 10 Billion Songs, Louie will receive a $10,000 iTunes Gift Card. iTunes is the number one music retailer in the world and features the world’s largest music catalog with over 12 million songs.

Apple festeggia un traguardo importantissimo. 10 miliardi di canzoni scaricate, legalmente, da iTunes. Una cifra da capogiro che testimonia il successo raggiunto dal music store della casa di Cupertino

iTunes Store ha aperto i battenti il 23 aprile 2003, diventando sin da subito il marketplace musicale di riferimento. Poco meno di sette anni dopo, il record dei dieci miliardi di brani scaricati. Merito, principalmente, di Steve Jobs, che è stato capace di trasformare il marchio della mela in un brand cool, dinamico e vincente.

Ma i festeggiamente non riguardano solo Apple. L’utente che ha scaricato il diecimiliardesimo riceverà infatti un buono da 10.000 dollari, spendibile su iTunes per comprare musica, video o applicazioni per iPhone (si tratta della canzone “Guess Things Happen That Way” di Johnny Cash acquistata da Louie Sulcer di Woodstock, Georgia).
